Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026
The A²ZERO Swaps kiosk records what comes in and goes out at A²ZERO clothing swaps in Ann Arbor, so the swaps can report how much clothing they keep out of the landfill. It is run by ZeroWaste.org, a nonprofit. This policy explains what the kiosk collects and what happens to it.
What we collect
When you check in or check out at a swap, we record:
- the weight of the clothing, and the clothing categories if you choose them;
- the date and time, and which swap it was;
- whether you have been to a swap before;
- your first name and email address, but only if you choose to give them (both are optional);
- any note you type in.
You can check in without giving any personal details at all. Volunteers who count inventory record their name and the counts. People who manage the swaps sign in with an email address and a password; we store the password only in a scrambled (hashed) form.
What we don't do
- We use no third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or tracking pixels.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
- We do not add your email address to any ZeroWaste.org or other mailing list; it is used only for A²ZERO clothing swaps.
How we use it
- To calculate and publish the swaps' impact: pounds diverted, water and CO₂e saved, and attendance. Published figures are totals; they never include names or email addresses.
- To let the people who run the swaps review, correct, and export the records.
- If you gave your email address, to contact you about A²ZERO clothing swaps.
Who can see it
Individual records are visible only to the signed-in people who organize the swaps. We may share them with the A²ZERO program team the swaps are run for. We will disclose information if the law requires it.
Cookies and outside services
The kiosk sets one cookie, which keeps its forms secure and is deleted when you close your browser. Organizers who sign in are signed in through that same cookie, and are signed out after 30 minutes without activity. Our server logs record your IP address and the pages you request, for security and troubleshooting; they do not record your name, email address, or notes. The pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to fetch them; Google receives your IP address but not anything you type into the kiosk. We send email (receipts and swap news) through Postmark, an email delivery service, which receives your email address and the message to deliver it, and keeps track of anyone who unsubscribes.
How long we keep it
We keep swap records for as long as they are needed to report on the swap program. You can ask us to delete your name and email address from your records at any time, and we will.
Children
The kiosk is not meant for children under 13 to enter their own details. If a child has given us their name or email address, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For questions, or to ask us to see or delete your information, email hello@zerowaste.org.
